How to choose a screen

A projection screen is an essential part of the whole presentation system and the right choice has a dramatic influence on the general impression of what is being projected. The objective of a projection screen is actually twofold: to image the visual information without a loss of picture quality and to reflect the projected light in the direction of the audience. Both aspects are necessary for an optimum perception of the projected image.

There are four basic steps for choosing a projection screen:
  • Type
  • Aspect ratio
  • Dimension
  • Fabric

Type of the screen

There are 3 types of LUMIEN projection screens:

Manually
operated
wall projection
screens
Electrically
operated wall projection
creens
Portable tripod

Aspect ratio

LUMIEN projection screens are manufactured in the three most popular aspect ratios used in the business and educational environment as well as in home cinema:

Dimensions of the projection screen

The dimensions and hanging positions of the projection screen are determined by the following guidelines:
  • height of the projection screen = 1/6 of the distance from the screen to the last row of seats.
This is to ensure that everyone in the audience can read text and see the detail in the projected image
  • width of the projection screen:
    1:1 width = height
    4:3 width = 1,33 x height
    16:9 width = 1,78 x height
    16:10 width = 1,6 x height

Optimum viewing height
For the following types of use, the most optimum distance from the bottom of the projection screen to the floor is:
  • Professional use = minimum of 125 cm
  • Home cinema use = 60-90 cm

Minimum viewing distance
The optimum perception of the projected image is determined by the rule as follows:
  • Minimum viewing distance = 1,5 x height of the projection screen

Screen Fabrics

LUMIEN projection screens are produced with diffusion screen fabric. This type of fabric spreads the light evenly and has a wide viewing angle.
Due to the gain coefficient of 1.0 the diffusive projection screen reflects 100% of light allowing to benefit from the performance of the projector in full. The black backing prevents the light penetration and improves the reflecting properties of the screen.
The diffusive projection screens are used for the front projection. A projector can be both hung on the ceiling or placed on the table.

Fabrics for LUMIEN projection screens have a woven textile base. They are environmentally safe, mildew resistant and washable.

FiberGlass Matte White

It is a high-quality fabric with white matte surface consisting of 4 layers: black PVC, optical fiber base, white PVC and reflective surface. The layer of braided fiber glass provides the absolutely flat surface and durability protecting the fabric from the deformation under temperature variations. The even dispersion of light excludes the hot spots and the change of color.

Matte White

It is a universal fabric with white matte surface consisting of 4 layers: black PVC, textile base, white PVC and reflective surface. The even light dispersion of light excludes the hot spots and the change of color.
